Today’s stitch is the buttonhole stitch. It’s kind of a filler stitch or good for a border. I didn’t really find many examples of the buttonhole stitch that was super close together like my book explained. I did find this example by jennypennypoppy on flickr and while her stitches aren’t super close together, they still are awesome and give a great effect.

(note that my embroidery book mentions that what makes the buttonhole stitch differ from a blanket stitch is how close the stitches are together. I couldn’t really find any other online directions that expressed that same instruction.
